We at Davin Workforce Solutions love technology. Gadgets, software, innovative tools, even new lo-fi analog solutions, we love to try anything new. So, each month, we’ll bring you new gadgets and technology to help innovate your lives.
February is American Heart Month, and we thought for this installment, that we focus on gadgets that can help you stay healthy.
Here's a quick list of gadgets to help you stay healthy!
Cardiio
On the very surface, Cardiio is an app that takes and tracks your heart rate with a smartphone. It also guides you through a once-a-day 7-minute workout that you can do pretty much anywhere. (Just ask the amused co-workers who witnessed my attempts to complete it.) But how does this help keep you healthy? Well, other than obvious benefits from exercise, your resting heart rate is a good indication of your overall heart health. A low resting heart rate indicates better cardiovascular fitness and heart function.1 Using this app, you can monitor your progress towards a healthier heart. Find out more on their website.
Atmotube
Worldwide ambient air pollution is linked to an estimated 4.2 million premature deaths globally.2 Being aware of what you’re breathing in can literally save your life. That’s where the Atmotube comes in. This little, portable device monitors the quality of the air surrounding you. The Atmotube connects to an app on your phone to deliver real-time information about any potential hazards that you are breathing in. Sure, it may make you paranoid, but sometimes knowing is better than not! Find out more on their website.
SteriPen
You cannot live without clean drinking water. Everyone knows this. But there are times when your access to safe water is limited. This is where the SteriPen comes in. Created by Katadyn®, the SteriPen uses ultraviolet light to sterilize water in 48 seconds, giving access to safe, drinking water to anyone who needs it. Find out more on their website.
HAPIfork
According to a recent study, eating your food too quickly leads to weight gain and increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.3 This translates to, “SLOW DOWN WHEN EATING!” But that can be difficult when a tasty plate of french fries is taunting you. Enter, the HAPIfork. Created by Jacques Lépine, this fork measures and tracks how quickly you eat. The tracking through an online dashboard, combined with coaching programs, aims to help you slow down, enjoy your food, and not overeat. Find out more on their website.
KardiaMobile
The final entry really leans towards those who hold concerns about their heart. KardiaMobile is an FDA-Cleared portable EKG monitor that works with most smartphones and tablets. By touching the pad with two fingers on both hands, the app captures medical-grade EKG in 30 seconds. This can be used anywhere at any time. The company that created the device, AliveCor, announced in April of 2018 that they have surpassed 25 million recorded EKGs. With the data being shared with cardiologists, this device could save many, many lives. Find out more on their website.
Technology regularly saves lives, but it also empowers us to live healthier lives. Take inspiration from American Heart Month and work on being a healthier version of yourself.
